Thursday Night Football: Top Bets
December 22, 2022

Let’s take a look at the top best for tonight’s game.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+2, 37) vs New York Jets

The Jaguars offense has significantly improved over the last few weeks and scored 28 points or more in three of their previous four games. Last week, the Jaguars put up 40 points against a Cowboys defense that gives up just 19.2 points per game (seventh in the NFL).

The Jaguars improvement on offense is directly correlated to QB Trevor Lawrence, who has 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He’s recorded 318 passing yards in three of their last four contests and has 14 touchdowns and just one interception in their last six games. The Jets have a good secondary, but we are confident the Jaguars will be able to move the ball, as we feel the Jets offense will do the same against the Jags secondary (252.6 passing yards allowed per game; 29th in the NFL).

The game total has gone over in four straight games for the Jags, and eight of their last nine road contests finished over the total. The weather is supposed to be rainy and windy, and we believe that has caused the public to jump on the under, which has driven down the line more than it should.

We recommend taking the Over 37 points.

Trevor Lawrence Over/Under 11.5 rushing yards (-115)

With the wind and rain projected this evening, Trevor Lawrence might need to find other ways to move the ball other than with his arm, specifically with his legs. Since Week 5, Lawrence is 7-3 on the Over on his rushing total, and has run for 20 or more yards in six of those. Lawrence is dealing with a toe injury that has kept him limited for multiple weeks.

The non-ideal passing conditions could also open up the opportunity for more scrambles for Lawrence. New left tackle Walker Little could also help Lawrence scramble if this New York pass rush can collapse the pocket on Lawrence who is one of the least-sacked QBs per dropback.

We like the Over on Trevor Lawrence rushing yards at 11.5.
