NHL: Today’s Top Bets
January 13, 2023

Below is a breakdown of our top bets for the NHL games tonight.

Winnipeg Jets (+155, 6.5) vs Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh is averaging only 2.69 goals per game over its last 10, which ranks 24th in the NHL.

The Penguins have also struggled defensively during this stretch, allowing 13.94 high-danger scoring chances per game. That may haunt them tonight as they take on a Jets team that has ranked high in shooting percentage all season. The Jets enter the game ranking seventh in shooting percentage over their last 10 games.

This game is probably a little mispriced so there is value on the underdog Jets. The Penguins have stumbled as of late so now is the time to take advantage of that, and go ahead and fade them.

Jets +155

Edmonton Oilers (-170, 6) vs San Jose Sharks

The Edmonton Oilers have racked up 153 goals (2nd in the league) for the season and have given up 144. They have a power play rate of 31.01% as opposed to the Sharks, who are just at 20.66%. The oilers have been playing better as of late, accumulating more coring opportunities than their opponents.

Meanwhile, the Sharks have had a harder time putting the puck in the net, and have a lower success rate than the Oilers both on power play and penalty kills. With only 3 wins in their last 11 games, the Sharks will more than likely be in contention for the NHL draft lottery at the end of the season.

The Oilers are 4-0 in the last four meetings against the Sharks, and should win this one too.

We like Oilers -170.
