College Football Week 8 Picks
October 19, 2022

There were plenty of upsets last weekend, some bigger than others, but we are now getting into the point of the season where we have enough data to properly evaluate teams. There are also some teams that are in interesting situational spots this weekend. Let’s take a look at some of our recommended bets.

Iowa Hawkeyes at Ohio State Buckeyes (-29.5, 49)

Ohio State is in an interesting position this weekend. The Buckeyes haven’t been tested since Week 1 and have a much tougher game coming up next weekend with Penn State. It is very unlikely that the Buckeyes will have trouble in this game, but are they able to cover 29.5 points? Iowa’s offense has looked ugly so far this season, but this could be a trap game for Ohio State. Given Ohio State doesn’t expect a challenge, along with the chances of them pulling their foot off the gas in the second half to get ready for next week, we look for Iowa to have a sneaky cover this weekend.

Clemson at Syracuse (+13.5, 49.5)

The Tigers are coming off an impressive 34-28 win over Florida State, with the score looking much closer than the game actually was. Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has thrown for 1,665 yards, 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions this season, while averaging over 4 yards per carry. Clemson is also 7-1 against the spread in its last eight conference games. Our experts predict a relatively easy win for Clemson, by 17-21 points.

Texas at Oklahoma State (+6, 64.5)

The Longhorns were sloppy in last week’s 24-21 win over Iowa State as 16.5-point favorites but all that does is offer a relative buy-low this week. This season has shown Longhorns are a much better team than what they looked like last week. Oklahoma State doesn’t have the defense of Iowa State to slow the likes of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and running back Bijan Robinson. We like Texas -6.
