What should we expect from Monday Night Football – Week 7? The Bears’ offense has been putrid this year, and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. The Bears have only passed on 35% of their plays, which is shockingly low, and the only way they can generate offense is through an efficient running game, including rushes by Justin Fields. On the other end, Mac Jones is returning from an ankle injury after missing the past three games, although that hasn’t really affected the spread.
The Patriots have averaged almost 30 points the last four weeks, albeit against lesser opponents. On the defensive end of the ball, the play has improved recently, and we expect a great performance against Fields, who has more interceptions than touchdowns this season.
With that being said, the Patriots were giving only three points to the Lions just a couple games ago, and even after quality wins against Detroit and at Cleveland, -8 in this game looks like an overadjustment. We like the Bears +8.
The Bears have been decent defensively, allowing 5.4 yards per play and 1.9 points per drive. They have struggled somewhat against the run, and because of Jones return from injury, look for the Patriots to work hard to establish the run throughout the game. Given these two teams likely affinity to run the ball consistently in this game, combined with the lack of touchdown passes by both quarterbacks this season, we like the under of 40 in this game.
